Karl Lang, presented a Lumita research paper at the 15th Color Imaging Conference in Albuquerque,NM. The paper titled “Analysis of the proposed IEC “Color Illuminance” digital projector specification metric, using CIELAB gamut volume” demonstrates the utility of the new Color Light Output projector metric. Like the existing light output metric the new metric is measured in Lumens and provides a simple easy to understand number that consumers can use to evaluate projectors when making purchasing decisions. This new research tested a number of popular projectors using the new metric and compared the result with the much more rigorous CIELAB gamut volume test. The study shows the consumer friendly “Color Brightness” number is a good indicator of projector color performance.
